The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is an opportunity for all Canadians to reflect on the truths of our shared history, acknowledge the harm caused by residential schools, and commit to meaningful action in support of reconciliation.
Mental health supports available:
•Former residential school students can call 1-866-925-4419 for emotional crisis referral services and information on other health supports from the Government of Canada.
•Indigenous peoples across Canada can also go to The Hope for Wellness Help Line 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for counselling and crisis intervention.
•Call the toll-free Help Line at 1-855-242-3310
Let this day be more than symbolic. Let it be a step forward—toward truth and healing.

Terminology can be overwhelming, and it changes to reflect the diversity of a community – this is true in the LGBTQ2S+ world, because so much is changing quickly, including the terms that are considered appropriate to use. The most important thing is to listen if someone tells you how they identify, and to believe that they know themselves. If you would like to learn more about terminology, PFLAG has a great guide!
